Jamie Purviance is a leading expert in outdoor cooking and the author of three best-selling cookbooks, including Weber’s Art of the Grill™ and Weber’s Real Grilling™. After graduating from Stanford University and the Culinary Institute of America (with high honors), Purviance worked as the executive chef of St. Supéry Winery in Napa Valley and began contributing to major magazines and newspapers, including Bon Appétit, Sports Illustrated, Town & Country Travel, and the Los Angeles Times. He has been a guest chef at the James Beard House in New York City, and he often teaches at prestigious culinary schools such as Johnson and Wales University and Copia: The American Center for Wine, Food & the Arts.

Purviance is certified by the Kansas City Barbeque Society and has served as a judge at high profile competitions including the Jack Daniel’s World Championship Invitational and Sutter Home’s Build a Better Burger® contest. He has inspired millions to pick up the tongs through appearances on Today, The Early Show, Good Morning America, FOX & Friends, and The Oprah Winfrey Show—and on PBS and the Food Network. While writing Weber’s Charcoal Grilling™, he burned through more than half a ton of charcoal.
